Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Clear Image Singles® Sterile.

Why choose single patient gel packets instead of bottled ultrasound gel?
Infection control Bottled gel is often exposed to multiple patients and staff, potentially leading to cross-contamination and microbial growth. Single patient doses can help reduce that risk.
No refilling Refilling partially emptied bottles may mix new gel with gel that has been exposed to pathogens. Packets are ready to use and need no refilling.
Convenience Two pre-measured packet sizes let clinicians dispense the preferred amount with minimal effort or waste. The spout controls the flow — from a dab to a glob.
Accountability With single patient packets it’s easier to track gel expenses per patient or per procedure.
Why doesn’t your ultrasound gel contain dye?

Some manufacturers dye their gel blue or green. NEXT Medical gels are clear, colorless and non-staining. We believe a dye-free gel helps reduce the potential for skin irritation in sonographers and patients who are sensitive to dyes. For the same reasons, we do not add perfumes.

What is the impact of air bubbles in ultrasound gel?

Air in the path of sound waves acts as a barrier, resulting in poorer image resolution. If sound waves can’t pass properly to and from the transducer, clouding, degradation or distortion may occur — potentially affecting the diagnosis.

In extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), studies have shown treatment effectiveness improves when bubbles are eliminated from the coupling media and when gel is applied in a way that avoids introducing bubbles.

NEXT Medical uses a proprietary manufacturing method to minimize air bubbles in our gels. Single patient packets also help avoid bubbles caused by repeatedly squeezing and shaking down gel bottles.

Why doesn’t the end of the Clear Image Singles® packet open completely?

By design. Tearing off the perforated end forms a dispensing spout, so the sonographer can dispense all the gel in a controlled way and apply it precisely — such as a dab on a transducer. It also exposes less gel along the edge, so it’s cleaner than wide-open packets.

The packet is made from a puncture-resistant, polyester-based material with oxygen and moisture barriers that help preserve the gel. Its slim, elongated shape fits comfortably in the hand, with one smooth, rounded side so fingers don’t touch a sealed edge.

Choose from two sizes: a 30 mL packet with 1/3 more gel than competitive 20 gram packs, and a 15 mL packet for procedures requiring less gel.
